Library and Cityscape
Pella Prize for Design Excellence
UIC SoA Year End Show 2006
Chicago_ The topography of the active urban site gave inspiration for the branch library. The overlapping forms and rushing traffic create a dialogue between the cityscape and the new artificial landscape. The proposal extends the surrounding space into the building through a ramping gradient of reading spaces while bars of program are arranged based on proximity, view and light. The building is seen as a landscape that starts at the city street and leads to information zones. The cityscape is not interrupted by the building, rather an extension.
